Twice Exceptional Newsletter- EXCEPTIONAL

2E Children – Gifted with learning difficulties.

Some children are very smart in everything but school.  Some have great ideas but just can’t write down the information fast enough.   Some are bored, yet can’t do the simple work.  Frustration levels are maxed-with the parents and the kids!  What can be done?

The Sept/Oct 2010 newsletter from 2ENewsletter.com just arrived via email.  Topics in this newsletter includes:  The Brain: A Primer, Brain Research & Education, RTI for 2E students, RTI Principles for serving the Needs of Gifted Students, and more!  If you have an interest in gifted & twice exceptional children, read this newsletter!

Other resources whom I personally know who evaluate, speak and write on 2E children include:
Drs. Eide, neurologists and author of The Mislabeled Child
Dr. Linda Silverman, psychologist, director of the Gifted Development Center and author of Upside Down Brilliance.

At Hellerstein & Brenner Vision Center, approximately 25% of our vision therapy patients are “labelled” (or suspected to be) 2E.  Many of these children have high IQs, but show a significant disparity between their verbal and performance sections on the WISC IV.  Read more about the visualization strategies and activities that are beneficial especially for these children in the book, See It. Say It. Do It!

A very interesting and challenging population to work with.  Many children are compensated or behaviorally act out, therefore overlooked!  These kids just don’t do well in an average classroom…and they often don’t fit into the gifted or learning disability classrooms.
