The Epidemic of Disconnection

Master Mingtong describes a growing disconnect between mind and body. While oftentimes our mental world and physical are not in tune, becoming immersed in the digital world and the rapid spread of AI is even more disruptive that we are not just losing our body, we are “losing our mind”. In many ways, the robot technology and AI we have today reflect humanity’s desires and direction. Yet if we remain disconnected from ourselves, we will begin to function like the very machines we create.

What Awakening Looks Like

Embodied awakening begins with recognizing this disconnection and choosing to return to the body. It is the process of becoming aware of the choice to reconnect with your body, empowering that choice, and living from it daily. According to Master Mingtong, awakening often happens through suffering, the guidance of a teacher, moments of deep passion and flow, or the search for inner peace.

A Personal Journey to Healing

Growing up during China’s Cultural Revolution, Master Mingtong struggled with feelings of loss, instability, and chronic health challenges, including asthma and scoliosis. His discovery of Qigong transformed his life, offering a path to healing, inner peace, and self-mastery.

Understanding Qigong

Qigong combines “Qi” (energy) and “Gong” (mastery or skill), meaning the conscious cultivation of energy. In Qigong, everything is energy. Through practices such as movement, breath, and sound, individuals can experience energy directly and develop a deeper connection with themselves and life.

Reconnecting Mind and Body, and Discovering Your Energy

Master Mingtong believes many of our challenges – stress, illness, heartbreaks, even the world’s ills – stem from the disconnect between mind and body. As we reconnect, we discover energy as the foundation of life. This awareness and the constant nurturing of this connection open the door to greater vitality, creativity and joy.

Everything is Within Our Self

Master Mingtong reminds us that everything we seek already exists within our self. But what is our “self”? He offers a contemplative meditation centered on three simple reflections:

  • Without this body, I do not exist as a human being.
  • Without this body, I cannot experience life as a human.
  • Without this body, my soul cannot evolve in this lifetime.

These reflections open the door to a deeper understanding of who we are and our energy.

The Two Patterns of Energy

According to Master Mingtong, energy operates in two primary patterns. Contracted energy causes decreased flow, compromised function and restricted growth. Open energy results to free-flowing life, improved well-being, expanded creativity, deeper connection and access to your potential. It is not simply healing, but a continual upgrading of life itself.

Healing Is Leadership

Healing, self-improvement, self-realization, and leadership are all part of the same process. The stronger our inner foundation, the greater our capacity to lead and create meaningful change in the world. “The bigger the tower you want to build, the deeper the foundation you will need.”

Coming Home to Yourself

The journey of awakening begins with a simple choice: returning to your body with loving kindness. Rather than focusing on fixing problems, Master Mingtong encourages us to use this embodied awakening to discover the potential that already exists within, as detailed in his new book, Coming Home to Embodied Awakening: Reclaim Your Body, Power, and Purpose in the Age of AI.

Master Mingtong shares a final treat with his composed song centered on the practice of welcoming yourself back to your own body, reminding us that whatever we seek is already within us.
